Eunice Lee

The Creative Unconscious: What's your name, and professional title? Where are you currently employed?

Eunice Lee: Eunice Lee; Designer, Photographer, Candlemaker; Owner of Pure & Cool Candle Company

TCU: What hobbies do you have outside of your professional field that keep you inspired and motivated to generate personal work? How do they inspire you?

EL: My hobbies include reading, watching movies, hiking, baking, cooking, and knitting. They allow me to slow down and spend time away from the computer, which I think is necessary and healthy. I think my best ideas come from enjoying the world around me, rather than looking at other people's work on social media, blogs, and websites.

TCU: Do you have a hard time balancing being a creative professional and generating personal work that you're proud of?

EL: Yes. I find that it is difficult to make time for personal work. But if you are really passionate about something, you will find time somehow.

TCU: What time of day do you feel the most creative? What about the most productive?

EL: I think I can be creative and productive at any time of day. But I definitely have a limit to how long I can work in a single day.

TCU: What are your creative goals for the future?

EL: I want to keep improving as a designer, photographer, and candlemaker. I believe that there is always more to learn, and that learning should not stop just because you make it to the "top."

TCU: Are you working on any personal projects right now? If so, can you share a little bit about your inspiration and your creative process?

EL: I officially launched my candle company in January 2015 because I wanted a soy wax candle with a subtle fragrance and simple design. For my first candle, I was inspired by the forests of the Pacific Northwest. I am working on more candles, but it has to be a fragrance that I love. If I don't like it, I will not use it in my candles.

TCU: Anything else you want to add?

EL: "How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world."
-William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice
